Organizational Safety & Security Assessment

As the criminal justice system does a better job of protecting victims of domestic violence, the workplace finds itself more vulnerable to attacks by batterers. Victims are at a 75% greater risk of being seriously injured or killed after they leave the batterer. Often times the one place a batterer can still find the victim is at the workplace.

The Organizational Safety & Security Assessment is an intricate process of auditing the safety and security of an organization to promote the greatest degree of protection for victims, fellow employees and citizens that may access the organization. In addition to the increased safety and security measures, the assessment should lessen an organizations vulnerability to lawsuits.

The P.T.I. uses an experienced team of consultants to conduct the Organizational Safety & Security Assessment.

The assessment is divided into four phases:

Phase I (Off Site)

  • Consultant Team reviews written materials (policies, procedures, information packets, etc.) that organization supplies.

  • Consultant Team works with organization to select a team of employees to participate in the assessment.

Phase II (On Site)

  • Training of organization’s team on dynamics of domestic violence, myths and realities, and the assessment process
  • Training on Interviewing Techniques
  • Mapping of the organization’s response to domestic violence
  • Mapping each individual department in the organization

Phase III (On Site)

  • Consultant team pairs up with employee team for interview and observations
  • Interview employees about policies and procedures
  • Interview employees about training and development
  • Test security measures
  • Debrief team members
  • Identify ways to increase organizational safety/security with no budget or limited resources

Phase IV (Off Site)

  • Consultant Team reviews data and prepares final report including any recommendations
  • Delivers to employee team

Phase V

  • Deliver copies of final report to managers
  • Meet with each department head and discuss final report and recommendations (can be consultant team or employee team)
